Hello, I know I haven't posted anything here since my PCA stuff YEARS ago before that group went bust... but as an avid fan of pokemon and an amateur artist/flash animator I felt I should post this up here.

I’ve always love logo/t-shirt style designs that play with color, shape, and visuals… so I decided to apply that to the three newly reveal starters from Pokemon’s newest region, Alola. Then, for the heck of it, I dug up my old Flash program (which I REALLY need to do more work with…) and decided to make their expressions change when you mouse over them… hope you folks enjoy this since I feel rather proud of how it all turned out.

But onto other things… specifically how I feel about the three starters =3

First off I absolutely ADORE these three~ Their designs are precious and what little they’ve shown in the release of them is absolutely adorable and gives the trio so much personality (at least to me, most of what I’m gonna ramble here is personal opinion… you’ve been warned)~ Now as for the specifics of each and what kind of personality I picture for them…

Rowlet – Dear GOD this thing is adorable… absolutely precious… though not particularly original at least in my eyes. I’ve seen the “little, spherical barn owl” design enough times before it doesn’t do much for me… though the bow tie of leafs is an inspired touch I will admit (Doctor Hoot~) so that’s something. They also made wonderful use of its rotatable head/neck with turning its face and swiveling its head around to look at you. Overall Rowlet gives me the impression of being the “Nice” one (in part due to its limited but cute facial expressions) in that it’s quiet, behaved, obedient, and generally easy to get along with with a streak of being curious and innocent natured… while still able to kick butt if needed or pushed (though I still have no clue what to think of these quill-leaf-feathers).

Litten – Cute kitten… or cub? Have had multiple people guessing that it’d turn into a tiger as it evolves (due to those stripes) so I guess we’ll have to see. As it stands though I love Litten more as a concept than an actual design since, while its design is precious and adorable (as all kittens should be), it doesn’t really wow me much while the idea of a pokemon using oil (specifically Litten’s oily fur) as a weapon is something I’ve seen and loved in many fakemon designs over the years. Of course that grumpy cat face is too cute to resist I will admit~ The personality impression Litten gave me was of a very stereotypical housecat so to speak. It tries to act stoic, aloof, and above it all like it doesn’t care what’s going on or happening and licking its paw is far more interesting than what you’re doing… then something happens to surprise or anger it and the act goes right out the window as it freaks, arches up, and reacts… then goes back to pretending to be aloof seconds later as if you didn’t just see that~ The kid, among a group of kids (since I picture starters as children usually), trying to act mature for his age and failing~

Popplio – Not gonna lie… this one is my favorite and, barring changed opinion on future reveals, the one I’m going to pick for my starter. Beyond just personal bias (I was an Oshawott fan back in Gen V and am seeing the same kind of reaction to Popplio that Oshawott got back then before the release)and my general love of circus motifs I find Popplio cuter and a touch more original then the other two (again, personal opinion). They’ve managed to make the cartoon circus seal puppy design work really well… and again like Litten I like the concept they gave him. The elasticized water “Balloons” Popplio can make just strikes me as a well done unique trait that I really, REALLY hope they make into a move proper in some form since it gives me all kinds of nice visuals (like a Popplio acrobatically bouncing around on a bunch of “Balloons” it made to compensate for the obvious mobility drawbacks being a seal incurs). As far as personality goes though… I oddly enough don’t see Popplio being bothered in the slightest about being last in the polls and opinion. The seal comes off as an overly eager, cheerful, friendly and excited little circus performer who is a prideful little show-off (in a good way) who would probably think he just needs to work harder to win people over… or just outright not care and keep performing with his friends (whether Rowlet or Litten wanted to be involved or not~) for people who do enjoy his shows~

Anyway that’s my opinion on all three of them… and this is an open invitation to everybody who bothered to sit through all of my ridiculous ramblings here, what do YOU picture when you think about the personalities for these three? =3 Which one is YOUR favorite and why? Curious to find out so please share… as long as we remain polite about it after all. The one thing I do picture is that all three starters are a classic trio of oddball friends with the “Energetic” one (Popplio), the “Nice” one (Rowlet), and the “Calm” one (Litten)… so in the name of that friendship lets get along when comparing our favorites ^,^

With that said please share your thoughts if you have time.
